With all their blockbuster helmets, it’s no surprise that the Shoei RF series just keeps on getting better and better. We, and almost everyone else in the world, had considered the RF-1100 the epitome of helmets. But unfortunately, the new RF-1200 is here to steal the show.

Of course, there is always that notion that improving a product that is already capable of many things will likely be ruined. It’s not the case here, though. In this case, the product has improved what has been considered as the greatest.

There are a lot of room for improvement, always. Regardless if your product had reached critical acclaim, there’s always that room for improvement, and that’s what the Shoei RF-1200 did. The shape and style had been different, changes in the shield mechanism and to the shield itself is also different. The ventilation has also been altered wholly that you won’t even recognize it.

Shoei managed to pull the improvements they were aiming to do. They’ve managed to polish off the helmet features that gave it a compact and quality fee to it that doesn’t have any loose ends. Even small things such as a bit of wind that catches your head when turning with the previous RF-1100 have been fixed with the latest version. Their attention to detail is evident and widely appreciated by consumers worldwide.

They’ve also managed to cut the helmet down from 3 pounds 10 oz to just 3 pounds and 8 oz. Things like the material and the compact shape, plus they’ve actually cut out a bit of the helmet around the neck to give a better fit, had all been taken into account.

Aside from the weight they had cut out, they had also taken time to carefully improve the comfort and well-fitting of the helmets, which includes improvement on the moisture-wicking fiber of its inner shell. Their ventilation has also undergone improvement, giving the helmet a better system with more control, as well as a brand new eye port and new shield. This particular upgrade allows you to manually adjust the locks so it can be modified to be tighter or looser, depending on the weather conditions or how you ride. The eye port is also a nice addition to its sleek features: it has a reinforced doubled walled gasket with makes it an outstanding seal against noise, wind, and the elements.

The RF-1200 took the best from its predecessors, RF 1000 and 1100, then Shoei gave it a sort of a redesign to improve functionality. Both Snell and DOT approved, Shoei actually managed to improve it’s overall functionality while maintaining its compact and sleek design. A bit more compact than the models before it, since the company (arguably) had cut out all the unnecessary features and tweaked some features to make this one a more compact and convenient helmet.

The all new RF-1200 also comes in different sizes, ranging from extra small to double extra-large, to cater to anyone who’s looking to find a good fit.

Again, they’ve managed to encapsulate everything up. It has a more compact, comfortable, and closed feel to it together with a stable safety performance. Though did they cut away a part of the helmet, it’s all part of how they ensure an excellent fit to anyone wearing it.

There is also evident change in the ventilation, as mentioned earlier. There are now a lot of options to choose from when controlling the vent. You are now given the option to have a really quiet ride when you close everything up. The chin vent can be full open, half open, or closed, and all that can vent right into the shield. As before, there are two chimney vents, but they’ve also added one to give you more versatility.

Just like most of the rear vents, which can now be controlled with a simple switch, is to suck out wet, warm air out of the helmet. This together with an improved ventilation and the ability to control all ports, you’ll surely find the perfect set up for your comfort.

Speaking of the venting onto the shield, it’s all new. This is an upgrade of the previous RF helmet, making it UV resistant and really heavy duty. You’ll get a bonus of Pinlock posts that comes standard. Not only that, you’ll also get a Pinlock lense, Max Vision. This creates a double layered window so you won’t have to worry about fogging because, well, it’s a window barrier serving to block that fog that builds up.

There is also a noticeable seal around the shield. The company behind the RF-1200 had really took time to deliver a package that will prevent nature from infiltrating your helmet no matter the conditions.

Overall, it’s a good—if not, excellent—helmet. Definitely premium, it’s also an amazing choice for when you’re looking at getting into the luxury market of helmets. It’s a fit for any condition, no matter how often you’ll ride. There are also a variety of choices you can choose from when it comes to colors and designs. And if all that isn’t enough, here’s the straw that’ll break the camel’s back:

There are cut outs for your ear pieces speakers than be used either to easily fit an ear piece or be filled with foam, which can be held in place by a snap, if it’s idle. This is the attention to detail that had gave the Shoei RF-1200 such a strong following.

If you’re looking around for a helmet with a premium quality and happen to stumble upon this happen, consider yourself lucky.  Much like its predecessor, the RF-1000, the RF-1100 is also popular, making their line more impressive. It should be a real treat for any wearer to get their head inside this helmet as it can cover them no matter what comes their way.
